The first step in the process of building an affiliate audience is to make a decision with regard to the type of people you want to work with. This blog is aimed at people who are interested in learning about affiliate marketing, so my audience is mostly the beginner affiliate. Those who need and want guidance on the initial steps to take for example.
When you have identified your audience then you can begin the process of building a highly targeted group of people. The MORE specific you can get about your audience the easier this process becomes.
Most beginners really do not understand this. They tend to think the bigger the audience you aim for, the more people you will get. The problem with that approach is you can get an audience of people who are NOT interested in what you are promoting at all.
To help you understand this a bit better, let me take you back to My First Day As An Affiliate Marketer. I explained in that post that I had already built an audience with a blog and social media when I decided to try affiliate marketing. The audience I was working with were joining me on free sites and were interested in working online. However, when you begin to understand more about targeting, you will see that “make money online” has various different and more specific categories.
The audience that I had built were very much interested in FREE earning opportunities. When I began attempting to promote PAID programs there was a clash or a mismatch between my audience needs and wants and what I was sharing with them. THAT is why they ran away.
The fact that “make money online” is NOT an adequate target audience descriptor is something it took me a long time to understand.
Now that I do understand it I am able to work in a way that builds a MUCH clearer and well defined audience.
MY audience for this blog is “beginner affiliates”. Knowing this means I can create specific content that begins to bring those who want to learn about affiliate marketing into my world.
How Does Content Build Your Affiliate Audience?
There are many factors at play when you create content but lets look at a very basic option first. One of the easiest things to work on as a new affiliate is using a special page to attract the attention of your audience.
For example, I have created this page:

This page helps me to filter out those not interested in learning about affiliate marketing, and filter in those who are. If someone is interested in learning they can click the link in the page and it brings them to this blog.
Now I have created this page I just need to work on promoting it. The page will attract the attention of people interested in finding out more. It is this page that works on building an audience of people for me.
How To Promote The Page?
I have already started working on this and I have also begun to get some interest too. Below you can see that I started using the traffic site called Hungry for Hits and thanks to doing that I have gained a new audience member:

Now my job is to keep promoting this page and allow it to bring more and more people towards my blog.
Luckily I have already been building an audience for several years so my promoting is about keeping more and more people coming in to read my blog posts.
This is where my knowledge and skills begins to work for my readers who wish to use my promoting system.
I do the work, I build the audience and YOU get to benefit from that.
Exciting, right?
I know I am excited about working on this plan!
